My Dog’s PlayDate
Policies
Requirements
for Group Outings
Up-to-date
vaccinations or a statement of health from your vet
Must be wearing a valid Rabies tag and City of Toronto License
Minimum age of 5-6 months, depending on obedience level*
Adult dog must be spayed or neutered
Dog must be healthy and well-socialized
Dog must have NO history of
aggressive behaviour towards people or other dogs. This includes leash,
toy or food aggression (possessiveness/guarding).
Dog must not pull excessively on-leash (this is very important as he will be
walked with up to four other dogs, and the walker must have complete control at
all times)
• To qualify for off-leash park time: your dog must have good recall (i.e. he comes
when you call him), and know the ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ commands* *
**It is your responsibility to ensure that your dog is
given off-leash play time by you on a regular basis before asking your
dog walker to do so. Both you and your walker must be 100% confident that your
dog can be trusted before he will be let off-leash. Your dog may not be a good
candidate for an off-leash walk if he has ever tried to run away, runs across
the street, run out of the park, etc. Certain breeds, such as sight or scent
hounds (e.g. Beagles, Greyhounds, Fox hounds) are a special concern, as they
have the added instinct to run bred into them.
It is our policy to keep all new dogs on leash for the first few walks. This
allows us time to safely observe your dog in the park, and also forces your dog
to bond with his walker more quickly. If your dog is responsive to the walker’s
voice on leash, interacts well with the other dogs, and does not show any signs
of fear or nervousness, he will graduate to off leash after 2 walks. Some dogs
take a little more time to feel safe and comfortable in the group, in which
case 3 or 4 days of on leash walks would be required.
CANCELLATION OF SERVICES (walks, visits etc)
